As a student designer, I feel that you can never be sure with life. I am sure that goes with everyone though, right? You can dream big, plan your life ahead, but you just never know how on earth you’re going to ever get there..which steps to make..which journey to take..it’s scary.
However, a good advice is to always believe. If you believe in something so strongly, so strong that it makes you feel like you are living in it and it’s so clear, then, you know you have nothing to worry about.
A Korean girl coming from such a small country like South Africa to London has been one of the most greatest opportunities that I have ever endured. Back home, I always felt different and I knew that staying in Cape Town was never the dream for me, maybe when I retire of old age, but not any time soon. I always believed there was something more for me, I was hungry, determined and challenged. While others studied for their exams, I was the one always curious with the world of art and design. This is why I am here now, part of the University of Arts London: the greatest Art and Design university in the world with so much to offer.
Honestly, some people may not understand what I design at this point in my life. You may dislike it, you may question yourselves “WHAT THE —-“, but in truth, I don’t see the point why I should make a shoe that everyone wants to wear.
People need to understand the difference between what is “normal” and what is “absurd” or more likely known as “Contemporary”.
Normal is things that are the usual, the obvious and simplicity of order and acceptance. Contemporary or the term I like to use “absurd” is the ability to manipulate the viewers eyes, confusion, the dislike, the questions, the hows, why, who, what .etc.
It’s enjoyable as it makes the public stop and really indulge in such invention.
This is mirrored beauty, look at IT and appreciate.
